Huskies Drop Two at Metro State

Denver, CO-- Metropolitan State University swept St. Cloud State in non-conference baseball Saturday afternoon, 11-10 in nine innings and 14-3 in seven innings.

Metro State first baseman Mike Hoefs had an outstanding day as he finished the outing with nine hits, 12 rbi and two grand slams. In the first game, SCSU took a 10-7 lead into the bottom of the ninth inning. With two out and bases loaded, Hoefs hit a grand slam for the win. He finished the game six-for-six with four runs scored and six rbi. Right fielder Troy Spahn and DH Ryan Sbresny each had three hits for the Roadrunners. S. Covell posted the win. Metro scored 11 runs on 18 hits and committed six errors. St. Cloud State had four players with two hits each. First baseman Luke Klitzke, and outfielders Kyle Johnson, Gary Kiess and Ryan Tschida each had two hits for the Huskies who tallied ten runs on 11 hits and two errors. Pat DeLaHunt took the loss.

In game two, Metro State erupted for nine runs in the third inning and went on to a 14-3 win. Hoefs had three hits for the Roadrunnerrs and Ham Braden went the complete game. SCSU shortstop Dan Skog and Kyle Johnson each had two hits. Ben Johnson took the loss. Metero State scored 14 runs on 11 hits. while the Huskies scored three runs on eight hits and committed three errors.

St. Cloud State is 1-3 overall and Metro State 2-6. The teams will play a doubleheader on Sunday afternoon.
