St. Paul, Minn. – The NSIC All-Conference Baseball Teams were revealed today, and SCSU was represented well, as Logan Birr was Freshman of the Year, and David Deminsky and Nate Hammes were named to the first and second teams respectively.
Birr (St. Cloud) and Deminsky led a pitching staff that finished the season at the top of several NSIC statistical categories. Birr, also on the NSIC Second Team, finished the year with an 8-1 record and a stellar 2.93 ERA. He also struck out 72 batters in just over 61 innings pitched in his 14 appearances.
Deminksy (Sartell) had a record setting season, tying the Husky single season record for starts and breaking the mark for strikeouts by whiffing 88 batters. The southpaw ended with a 3.12 ERA and a 7-1 record. Deminsky will be suiting up for the St. Cloud River Bats of the Northwoods League this summer.
Hammes (Lake Elmo) played in every game for SCSU, catching in 50 of the 54 contests. He led regulars with a .361 average with six home runs and 42 RBI while also stealing five bases. Hammes was also solid defensively, throwing out 28 percent of runners that attempted to steal.
The three were cornerstones of a Husky team that tied or broke a combined 19 team records. The Huskies broke the single season win record with 36 wins and will return a solid core of players, including all three all-conference honorees, for 2010.
