Peter Pratt
Pitching Coach
Peter Pratt will return to the SCSU dugout in 2007-08. A former standout player for the Huskies from 1985-88, Pratt owns six team pitching records and served as a captain for two seasons at SCSU. Pratt went on to serve for three seasons as the squads pitching coach from 1989-91. The Huskies won the 1989 conference championship and the 1991 NCC tournament title. SCSU also advanced to the NCAA tournament in 1991.
A long-time area resident, Pratt was a three-year varsity letterwinner at nearby St. Cloud Apollo High School, where he gained All-Central Lakes Conference status twice. He was an All-State Honorable Mention selection in high school, and helped his Apollo squad advanced to the championship game of the MSHSL Class AA chamionship. In 1983, Pratt was a member of the St. Cloud Saints squad that won the State Amateur championship. Pratt won over 100 games during his career as an amateur league pitcher.
"Having Pete back in a Husky baseball uniform is very special," SCSU head coach Pat Dolan said. "Pete is a highly motivated and extremely experience baseball guy that bleeds for the red and black. Have the baseball backround he has will greatly benefit our Husky pitching staff. He has been a great friend of mine for 20 years. His competitive fire will rub off on everyone within the Husky baseball family."
Ken Picha
Assistant Coach
Longtime Central Minnesota prep baseball skipper Ken Picha will join the St. Cloud State University baseball staff as an assistant coach in 2007-08. Picha served as the head varsity baseball coach at nearby Melrose High School for 29 years (1979-2007) and compiled an impressive 427-181 career record. He ranks eighth on the all-time win list among Minnesota high school baseball coaches, and his .702 career winning percentage ranks sixth among Minnesota high school coaches who have a minimum of 350 wins.
In 29 years at Melrose, Picha never had a losing season. His teams won 11 conference titles, seven district championships and his squads advanced to four state tournaments. His 1997 and 1998 teams finished second in the state baseball tournaments. Picha was voted the MSHSL Class AA Coach of the Year in 1998, and he received the Dick Siebert award in 2004. Picha previously served as president of the Minnesota High School Baseball Coaches Association, and he will be inducted into the Minnesota High School Baseball Coaches Hall of Fame in the fall of 2007. Picha has coached many players who have received All-State honors and who have gone onto play in the Lions All-Star baseball series.
"Ken is a coaching legend not only in the Central Minnesota area, but the entire state," SCSU head coach Pat Dolan said. "Having a person of his character and experience come on board is sure going to make my job much easier. He's got a calm demenor, but he is a true competitor. I remember looking up to him 20 years ago as a high school player at ROCORI (High School). The addition of these two great men is going to make our Husky baseball coaching staff one of the strongest and most experienced staffs around. We are very fortunate to have these coaches with us."
