Central Minnesota baseball field turf initiative:
Chris Koenig's perspective on field turf
How Do the SCSU Coaches and Players Feel About Playing on Field Turf?
Listed below is a testimonial from Chris Koenig about the importance of creating a Field Turf baseball facility in Central Minnesota.
As a current St. Cloud State University Assistant Coach, a former St. Cloud State University Husky baseball player, and St. Cloud Technical High School alum, I have experienced many situations where field turf would have been a great asset to the Central Minnesota area.
Upper Midwest baseball has always been handicapped by long winters and wet springs resulting in shortened or condensed baseball seasons. I firmly believe field turf would help the advancement of baseball in Central Minnesota for all high school, college, and amateur baseballprograms.
Field turf needs very little maintenance and can be played on long before normal fields due to weather conditions such as frost and rain. The initial cost of field turf seems substantial. However, much revenue is brought in by rental fees and the many more uses a field turf surface allows for that a natural grass field does not. Field turf is becoming the new trend du eto its positive impact on community recreation and sport programs.
The positives far outweigh the negatives and that is why a city such as St. Cloud needs a field turf facility in the area.
