Land Surveying and Mapping Science BS Mission Statement
The mission of the Land Surveying and Mapping Science Program is:
- To educate surveying professionals to meet societal and technological challenges through the creation and dissemination of information, knowledge and technology, and the development and provision of innovative solutions; and
- To enable graduates to gain the knowledge, skills and expertise required for them to become registered as Professional Surveyors after the completion of appropriate work experience.
Program Educational Objectives
The Educational Objectives of the Land Surveying and Mapping Science Program are:
• To provide our students with a solid foundation in analytical tools (mathematical and computational), basic science, spatial sciences and design, in order to develop practical and professional excellence in our future graduates;
• To review, restructure and update current curriculum on an on-going basis, so as to provide a multi-dimensional educational experience to our students, using a wide, integrated range of modern learning technologies, methodologies and hands-on experience;
• To provide our students with opportunities to engage in creative problem-solving activities through planning, design and implementation of a range of surveying projects, within the context of continuously changing natural, organizational and global settings;
• To provide our students with the opportunity to learn basic thinking, analytical, creative, synthesis and problem-solving skills; the basic skills of effective communication (oral, written, graphical and electronic), individually and in multi-disciplinary teams; and professional and ethical skills;
• To provide our students with an understanding of the roles and responsibilities of their profession and themselves within organizations, within society and in a global context, including an appreciation of the need for life-long learning.
