Courses We may Use for Assessment of the Learning Outcomes

The mission of the Community Development Program is to prepare students for careers in the field of Community Development and Planning for urban, suburban, and rural communities. This mission is guided by the notion of the global community and the principles of sustainability, diversity, and social justice.

1. To teach students to fully comprehend:

a) the basic physical, social, and economic characteristics, issues, and key problems facing urban, suburban, and rural communities;

b) the strategies, tools, and techniques used by planning and community Development professionals to research, identify and address these issues; and

c) the theoretical planning and community development framework and the policies that guide the rational of many planning and development actions.

2. To provide students with basic knowledge and an understanding of issues, principles, practices and applications of specialized Planning and Community Development fields. Such fields may include :

  • Economic Development,
  • Housing,
  • Downtown Development,
  • Transportation Planning,
  • Urban Design,
  • Preservation,
  • Land Use and zoning, and
  • Site Planning and Development.

3. To develop and refine essential skills such as  interpersonal communication, oral and written communication, research, analytical, and teamwork skills in order to:

a) secure an effective and appropriate internship placement

b) obtain a position in the Planning and Community Development and related fields.

a) CMTY 493: Internship Placement and utilization of evaluations of Internship supervisors

b) Keep and record data regarding job placement of program’s alumni, graduate school
