Project #3: General Education Assessment

2. Describe the SLP in 100 - 200 words
As a result of completing the Academy, SCSU will have a distinctive, mission-based and assessable General Education program that integrates a rich liberal education with a variety of academic/professional programs and that reinforces key learning outcomes across each student’s total college experience.
- Distinctive(HLC Statement on General Education recognizes that “effective general education can be shaped to fit unique organizational contexts.”)
- Mission-based and assessable (as a program, it must have student learning outcomes, and effectiveness should be assessed regularly against the organization’s stated goals for student learning)
- Integrates (e.g., not seen as separate or only occurring within the first two years of study)
- Rich liberal education (e.g., informed by current definitions and best practices for general education such as inclusion of goals for information literacy, integrative learning, collaboration, global awareness—goals not currently in the MnTC)

Because the program won’t be approved until next year, assessment data on student learning outcomes will only begin to be collected next year. Assessment plans won’t be completed until Fall 2008, but GETGOs should be able to file at least minimal assessment reports for 2008-09.
