Denise M. McGuire Student Research Award

Who is Denise M. McGuire?

This annual award serves to recognize and reward undergraduate students engaged in the college’s initiative of student-faculty collaboration on research and design projects. It is a competitive award in which student-submitted proposals accompanied by a faculty-sponsor document are rated by a committee of faculty. All applicants receive an award certificate. The top-rated applicants also receive a check. There are 15 or more checks awarded, with amounts ranging from $250 to $600.

Proposals will be judged on the following:

  • Explanation of project objectives
  • Description of methods and analysis
  • Explanation of project's significance
  • Dissemination of results (including intent to present at next SCSU Student Research Colloquium)
  • Overall organization and clarity
  • Recommendation from sponsor document

Example Proposal

All College of Science and Engineering undergraduates engaged in design and research projects with a faculty mentor are eligible.

The application deadline is the last day of January. Winners are announced in March, and those designated as winners are required to present their research projects at the St. Cloud State University Student Research Colloquium (SRC) in April. The awards will be distributed during the closing ceremony of the SRC.
