FACILITIES CONSTRUCTION STATUS REPORT October 2, 2009

Riverview

  • Construction in the $4.5 million project to renovate Riverview was completed in August, 2009.
  • Riverview is the only building on campus on the National Register of Historic Sites. The project paid particular attention to preservation of the building’s historic elements.
  • The Department of Communication Studies has moved to the building.

PreDesign October, 2005

  • The entire 78,000 square foot building is being renovated. Renovation will make code, accessibility and functional improvements to meet current standards.
  • The renovated building will house Nursing (moving from an off-campus leased space), Communication Sciences and Disorders (from the Education Building), Continuing Studies (currently in leased space in Shoemaker), Physics labs, and Printing Services.
  • Construction funding of $15 million was provided in the 2008 legislative session; this project started January, 2009, and should be complete in the spring of 2010.

National Hockey & EVENT Center

  • An appropriation of $6.5 million was made in the 2008 legislative session to design, construct, furnish, and equip an addition to the National Hockey Center.
  • The addition, along with some renovation, is intended to improve spectator access and experience, building operating facilities, training and locker room facilities for on-ice participants, and increase flexibility of use.
  • Final parameters of the project are now being set, including expected fundraising goals to enhance the project.
  • JLG Architects of Alexandria, Minneapolis, and Grand Forks, Minnesota, was selected as the architect in January, 2009.
  • The St. Cloud firm of Hagemeister & Mack Architects, Inc., is the associated architect.
  • Schematic design is complete.
  • Design development is underway.
  • Donlar Construction has been selected as the construction manager.
  • Construction of the first phase is expected to begin in the spring of 2011 .

  • Planning funds of $900,000 were appropriated in the 2008 legislative session.
  • The approved pre-design describes a $44 million, 100,000 square foot science research and teaching facility located at 8th Street and 2nd Avenue on the site of the 801 Building.
  • Rafferty Rafferty Tollefson Lindeke Architects was selected as the architect in the summer of 2008.
  • The schematic design was completed in May, 2009.
  • Design development work is under way.
  • Funding for construction will be requested in the 2010 legislative session.

FIFTH AVENUE LIVE!

  • The first phase of the Fifth Avenue Live! project began construction in July, 2009.
  • The project will include apartments for 455 students that the university will manage.
  • The university will also lease about 12,000 square feet for a Welcome Center on Fifth Avenue South.
  • In addition to surface parking, there will be over 300 enclosed heated parking stalls for residents.
  • There will be about 20,000 square feet of market rate retail lease space along Fifth Avenue South.
  • The project is to be completed in August, 2010, for fall 2010 occupancy.
