The Students section provides information concerning
how student-faculty collaborative research is supported within
the College of Science and Engineering (COSE); web links to
the Denise M. McGuire Student
Research Award and the St. Cloud State University (SCSU) Student
Research Colloquium; and information concerning the applicability
of the COSE Faculty Research Interest
Directory for students interested in conducting research
or merely curious as to what research is being conducted by
COSE faculty.
The Students section provides information regarding
the COSE Student Professional Development Fund, which has
the purpose of supporting travel of students to professional
workshops and conferences, and Dimensions, which is a
news journal publicizing the research and activities of COSE
faculty, students, staff and alumni.
The Students section also offers pictures and text of
students participating in the SCSU Student Research Colloquium,
an award ceremony for the Denise M. McGuire Student Research Award
(which was formerly titled the COSE Undergraduate Research Award),
as well as a web link to a listing of both COSE
and SCSU student organizations.
Applying for a Major or Minor
You may apply for a major or minor program in the College of Science and Engineering (COSE) if you have completed a minimum of 16 credits, have attained at least a 2.0 grade point average (C), and meet all department requirements. Report to the Dean’s Office, which is located in the Wick Science Building, Room #145, and secure instructions and the necessary forms from the Dean’s Office Manager. Engineering (ECE and MME) and Biological Sciences students report instead to your department office. In addition, you are strongly advised to meet and discuss your plans with an intended major faculty advisor (see the Dean’s Office Manager for appropriate faculty adviser).
You should read the information in the Undergraduate Bulletin regarding requirements for general education, your proposed major, proposed minor, and professional education (if you are entering a teaching field).
Students are encouraged to apply for their majors as soon as minimum requirements are met.
